Why are RCLs a better choice than RCAs?

Air-cooled or liquid-cooled

Air-cooled engines

Kohler® designed and built 2 cylinders (Vtwin)
design – simpler and cheaper design;
Powered by a 6-26 kW generator;
The 2-pole alternator requires operation at 3,600 rpm;
Provides increased fan speed and airflow to maintain cooling;
Higher RPM means noisier operation.

Liquid-cooled engines

Kohler® designed and built 2.2L and 6.2L technology to power the RCL range;
Engines use radiator fluid to cool the engine during operation, like a car engine;
The 4-pole alternators lower the speed to 1,800 rpm. Power of emergency generators from 24 to 150 kW;
Lower RPM means RCLs can operate longer in hotter environments and have better longevity;
Lower RPM also improves sound;

RCL Overview – Main Features

KOHLER® RCLs are designed and built to last.

Experience extreme silence with the RCL range.
KOHLER® RCLs respond faster to high loads and deliver industrial-level power on the 48-60 kW RCLs.
The 38-60 kW RCLs have the smallest installation footprint in width.
Find Superior Fuel Efficiency – The 24-38 kW RCLs have the lowest fuel consumption on the market.
Reduce on-site visits with remote monitoring applications and increase productivity and peace of mind.

Quality

The RCL range has been designed to offer a powerful solution that is built to last.
Quality improvements are underway; Constant analyzes are carried out to elevate production processes.
How? Exceptional design and process controls.

  • RCLs are built to last, with premium components and engineering;
  • Manufacturing process controls enable high first pass yield (FPY) and low unit failure rate (UFR) – our assembly and manufacturing improvements lead to the construction of more units and their correct operation before leaving our facilities and within the first 30 days of use;
  • UFR RCL claims: less than 1%;
  • RCL guarantee % of sales: less than 0.5%.
RCL motors

The heart of every RCL includes a KOHLER® engine.

  • Built for longevity – stories of units operating between 7 and 11,000 hours;
  • Low speed 1,800 rpm operation provides long life and quiet operation;
  • Works like an automobile engine;
  • Electronic engine management;
  • Single field NG/LP fuel conversions;
  • Hydraulic lifters – sustained power and quiet, maintenance-free operation.
Extremely quiet

RCL generators are the quietest residential generators on the market.
How? RCL generators feature a patented automotive cooling system that allows the cooling fans to turn off or run at low speed during exercise and low operating temperatures. This, coupled with the motor exercise and housing design, results in operation that is difficult to notice.

Power quality and voltage response

RCL generators have exceptional power quality and voltage response – as good or better than the utility with little maintenance.

  • This means the generator will respond more quickly to high start-up loads (i.e. AC, heat pumps on) than other manufacturers and will have less chance of electronic or sensitive device failure;
    (24-38 kW RCLs)
    How? 24 to 38 kW RCLs have wound field excitation with Powerboost.
  • Zero maintenance linked to excitation;
  • Powerboost – Can absorb starting loads better than generators without auxiliary winding.
    Competition: Competition often uses paintbrushes. This wears out over time, causing the generator to reduce power or shut down.

Installation footprint

KOHLER® RCL generators often have the smallest footprint during facility.

  • This means that the generator is easier to place on the job site than others manufacturers, especially on tight batch lines. (38-60 kW RCLs)

How? KOHLER® 38-60 kW RCLs offers narrower widths, resulting in better maneuverability.
Standard fence gates are 36 inches – KOHLER® RCL installations are least likely to require deconstruction of fences and fence gates.
Competition: Competitive units in the same node range are 1-7 inches wider,
and usually 3 to 29 inches longer.
